DID YOU KNOW PART 2
By: Don Callender

          Healthy Home Tribune   J
The Source that will make your home healthy again

In last weeks article we mentioned the potential health risk that can be involved in using your everyday household cleaners. This week we look at the ingredients that are in them and what they can do. To start off I am going to go over some very scary numbers that were released in a study about the toxins that are out there.
81,000 chemicals registered with the EPA in the last 30 years fewer than 20% were tested for toxins.
90% of all poison exposures happen in the home.
9 out 10 poison exposures are caused from home cleaning products.
Women who stay home have a 54% higher chance of dying from cancer than women who don’t.
From the ingredients that are out there:
884 are toxic
148 cause tumors
218 cause reproductive complications
778 cause acute toxicity
314 cause biological mutation
378 cause skin and respiratory irritation (source from the House of Representatives)
Ammonia   Fatal if swallowed, skin, lung, throat irritant can cause blindness. Mainly found in your glass cleaners.
Butyl Cello solves   Irritant and tissue damage from inhaling.
Formaldehyde    Known carcinogen
Naphtha   Depresses the central nervous system
Perchloroethlene   Damages liver, kidney and nervous system
Petroleum Distillates  Highly flammable can damage lung tissue and nerve cells.
Phenols   Extremely dangerous suspected carcinogen
Propylene Glycol   Damage to kidneys, lungs, heart and nervous system if ingested.
Sodium Hydroxide (lye)   Contact can cause severe damage to eyes, skin, and throat also causing liver and kidney damage.
Sodium Hypochlorite (Chlorine Bleach)   Contact can cause severe damage to eyes, skin, and throat and can cause liver and kidney damage. Has been the cause of more poisoning exposures than any household products.
The affects of these ingredients are scary and they are as natural to us as the air we breathe. Another important thing to know is the Government doesn’t require the manufacture to list the ingredients on the labels if it is under a certain amount, so you might be looking for these on your products but you will not see them. What you do need to be looking for are these warnings.

Danger this is the warning that if used wrong you could get sick, hurt yourself or DIE.

Warning  not as severe although, you can still get hurt or start a fire.

Caution this is for you to use the product in its correct instruction to keep from harming you.
The best way to make sure that you are safe and free from danger is to get cleaners that are all natural and will not harm you and your family or the environment. Stay tune next week as we break down all the cleaning products. For more info on the products that we will keep you safe just call or email me
